Legend has it that an angry Shiva sent Parvathi down to earth once. She did penance at Thirumullaivoyil which attracted huge crowds of people who gathered to pay their respects to the Goddess, resulting in large clouds of dust that covered the village. The King sent his brother and soldiers to banish the Goddess from his Kingdom. However the King, who heard the beauty of the Goddess, became so besotted that he wanted to marry her. The enraged Goddess took the form of Kali, mounted on a roaring lion and killed the King and his men, with the help of the Saptha Rishis (seven saints). Deities The presiding deity at this temple is Goddess Parvathi who is worshipped as Pachaiamman here. Lord Shiva, Lord Muruga and Lord Vinayagar are also worshipped at this temple.
